I forgot to mention – Zef had an excellent post about Java Schools on his blog (www.zefhemel.com). The nub of the post what that Joel Spolsky believes that it’s now too difficult to identify a "good" programmer due to the fact that so many universities are now teaching Java as opposed to other programming languages.
Other languages lead to lessons on pointer aritmetic and functional programming, and Joel proposes that teaching Java is now too easy for students.
I suggest you read the original post – it’s worth reading. I’ll post more once I have the chance to really digest it.
